I recently read this great article in the New York Times, For Fitness, Push Yourself. Scientists have released a study that shows that mice who felt “stress” from intense exercise have much more endurance, “developed tighter, larger muscles”, “and their bodies became far more efficient at releasing fat from muscles for use as fuel.” The thinking is that this is true for humans as well. You know that slightly panicky breathless feeling you get when you’re doing that really intense cardio, like jumping lunges, or sprinting up a hill, that’s the kind of “stress” the scientists are talking about.
I have long since felt that if I don’t feel that oh sh**! feeling when I’m working out, then I’m not really getting much done. Now, these muscular, fit n sexy mice are proof that I’m heading in the right direction, even if it is on a treadmill.
